Cable Gland
A Cable gland is a type of connector. They are also known as a cord grip cable connector or fitter. It is a small element designed to connect and secure the end of an electrical cable to the equipment.
There are two types of cable glands. Single compression and double compression cable gland. Normal glands are single compression cable glands. These are mainly used for light-armored cables. This means the compression will affect only one place, that is at the cable armor only. Normally these cable glands are called weather-proof cable glands. While double compression cable glands are mainly applying to the heavy armored cables entering or exiting the panel.
Another type of cable gland is EMC cable glands. EMC cable glands are the Electro-Magnetic Cable Glands. They are used for electromagnetic protection, mainly in the applications which involve shielded cables. By just tightening the gland, they help to maintain electromagnetic integrity of the shielded cable. When tightening the gland, it enables a special spring, which is placed inside the gland to come in contact with the cable braiding. By this method, it is used for electromagnetic protection.
Cable lugs are also known as Cable terminal ends or cable shoes. Cable lugs are electrical supplies utilized to securely connect or terminate cables to electrical devices, power or control panels, junction boxes, equipment, and machinery. These lugs are often used to join power cables together as well.
Electrical lugs are used when the permanent connection is not possible between devices or cables. The use of cable lugs allows in easy installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical devices or cables. Usually, one end of the electrical lug is used for connecting a cable to an electrical device.
Multiple wire strands are used for making cables, while wires consist of a single strand. Suitable type cable lugs are used for both cables and wires. One end of a cable lug is normally used for connecting a cable, which could be soldered, welded, or crimped depending on the type.
