A goblin (Fall arrester in rope access system) is a devil creature from European folklore. This was first attested in the stories from the middle ages. In different countries, the demons (Goblin) are explained differently. They had different conflicting abilities. Their temperaments and appearances were different depending on the story and country of origin.

The people have described them almost always small and mischievous or outright malicious, and greedy especially for jewelry and ornaments. They thought about Goblins (Fall arrester), that they have magical abilities similar to a demon. At that time they were believed in many different demons that were not even existed in the earth like brownies, dwarfs, kobolds...etc.

So the word Goblin (fall arrester) has arrived from this myth. Now, in this modern world, the goblin is a mechanical device used in the rope access industry. Which is used for extraordinary activities, Therefore the name goblin is matching with the device.

Harness:

A harness can be made from a length of rope or a nylon webbing tied round the waist. However, this is extremely uncomfortable unless the wearer is very light.

The harness is a mechanical device. It is normally fabricated from the rope, cable or webbing hardware, and attached between the stationary and non-stationary objects. Some times safety harnesses are used in combination with a shock absorber. It will help to regulate deceleration when the end of the rope is reached.

Actually, the safety harness is a set of straps and fittings. and, these straps are used for a horse or another animal is fastened to a cart, plow, etc. and is controlled and regulated by its driver. A harness is used as a looped restraint or support.

The harness is classified as different groups depends on the applications which are used for. The different types of harnesses are Bondage harness, Child harness, Climbing harness, pet harness, five-point harness, horse harness, parrot harness, safety harness, windsurfing harness, and the backpack straps of a breathing apparatus.

Here we are talking about the climbing harness. It is an item of climb instrumentality for rock-climbing, abseiling, or alternative activities requiring the employment of ropes to supply access or safety like industrial rope access, working at heights, etc. A harness secures someone to a rope or an anchor purpose.

Goblin:
