Pulley is a mechanical device and a part of rope access equipment. However, the pulley has a lot of roles in our daily life. For example in an elevator, multiple pulleys are using to work it properly. Similarly in a cargo lift system, to lift heavy items into higher floors mechanical devices working with pulleys are using.

Pulleys are a part of many types of exercise equipment. In a construction site, we can see lifting vehicles to lift and place heavy materials, they are using no. of pulleys in order to function. A simple example of a pulley is curtains at a theatre.

The curtain mechanism is similar to blinds on windows. To move the blinds up and down, pulley systems are used. When we pull the cord on the blinds, the pulley system connected to it is acting and it causes the blinds to open or close. For the flagpoles also we are using pulleys to hoist the flag up or to bring it down.

Another example of a pulley is it can be used to place birdfeeders high in trees or on poles. By using this pulley system it is easy to pull them down when they need to be refilled or removed. We can see a lot of examples of pulleys around us. They have an important role in our daily life.

The basic model of a pulley is a small grooved wheel used with a rescue rope. In ancient times it was used to take water from dwells. A rope and a bucket connected to a pulley can lift the water from the bottom of the dwells.

Pulleys can be mainly categorized into three. fixed, movable, and compound pulleys. As the name indicates a fixed pulley's wheel and axle stay in one place. The flag pole is an example of a fixed pulley. If we pull down on the rope, it is possible to change the direction of the force. This is an advantage of a pulley mechanism.

Rope Access and Pulleys

We have discussed the rope access technique and uses of pulleys in our last blog. However, let me recollect some points. As we know rope access is a technique by using rope and some other mechanical devices along with it. As the name indicates the main item is always the rope.

The rope access technique is used to access the unreachable areas with the help of rope access equipment. To perform this job, rope access technicians are required. They need to qualify for the exam and they should not be fear about the heights. With the help of a rope access equipment kit, they can do it easily.

Because the works related to the rope access technique is always related to heights. We are using this as a job for cleaning and maintenance of the buildings. While cleaning the building, we can see there is a lot of areas and corners which are not able to access directly or with the help of scaffoldings and cradles.

In a rope access kit, there are some mechanical devices such as safety harness, lanyards, static or dynamic ropes, safety helmets, carabiners, fall arresters, Pulleys, ...etc. Here we can check some of the uses of pulleys. One of the most familiar examples of the pulley is using multiple pulleys in order to function the elevators.

Rope access equipment kit contains a minimum of 5 to 20 mechanical devices along with the rope. The main devices are dynamic/ static or semi-static rope, safety harness/ chest or full-body harness, fall arrester, carabiners, lanyards, safety helmet, hand gloves, pulley, ...etc.

Nowadays, pulleys can be found everywhere to help make tasks easier. apart from lifting things, pulleys can be used as single or pairs working together in order to transport people or things.

Pulley is an important mechanical device in Rope access equipment. It can be classified as 3. One has a fixed axle, One has a moveable axle, and the other one is a compound, which is a mixture of the other two. These pulleys can be used to provide power from one shaft to another.

In rope access equipment, the use of pulley is also the same. It is used to lift the manpower or other mechanical devices. With the combination of some other mechanical devices or rope access equipment devices, pulleys can perform a lot of different jobs. For an example of the use of pulley is elevators. Elevators use multiple pulleys in order to perform.

There are different types of techniques to clean or paint the tallest buildings. However, the most popular method is the rope access technique by using rope access equipment. Before we were using the cradle technique, but the problem is if it is the tallest building, on the top we cannot balance the weight of the cradle.

By using rope access equipment technicians can easily perform the job well. They can hang by using ropes and other equipment and the building will not feel heavyweight. Only the weight of the technicians will be applicable.
