Silica Gel Packets

Most of us are familiar with the silica gel. It is a good moisture absorber. Everybody knows that silica gel is not supposed to eat. But have you ever thought about the benefits and uses of silica gel? You have probably gotten dozens of silica gel packets along with different products such as Laptops, Shoes, Tablets...etc.

Silica Gel Packets

You will get wondered once you are aware of the benefits of the best moisture absorber silica gel while you are using it with your daily needs. Even I asked the same question to myself a few weeks ago when I received it along with my new pair of shoes. Then I searched a lot about silica gel and I got some useful information about silica gel packets in our daily life. I learned that there are actually many different ways to put silica gel to good use.

Here I would like to share some of the useful information about silica gel moisture absorber packets in our daily life. But before starting it, I would like to talk about what is silica gel for the people who don't know anything about it. And why they are included with certain products while we are purchasing.

What is silica gel packets?

Silica gel is really useful because it is a desiccant, which means this silica gel is able to absorb and hold moisture from the surroundings. Silica gel packets are available on every market with less price on different qualities.

Therefore silica gel is a cost-effective way to absorb excess moisture for companies to protect their products from spoilage. Silica gel is normally available in 3 different colors such as Non-indicating or white silica gel, blue silica gel, and orange silica gel.

Silica gel is an inactive agent with all other substances. It will not work with anything. Therefore it can be used directly with edible products within a closed packet. There will be no problem while eating it, however, for better safety, it will be mentioned as "Do Not Eat" above the packet.

Silica Gel is a Moisture Absorber

Silica Gel is a Moisture Absorber

Do you know those tiny packets that you often find packed in a shoebox or with moisture-sensitive items? The ones that warning "Don't Eat" and "Throw Away"? Those are silica gel packets, and the gel inside can make your razor blades last longer. Here's why.

When you shave, your metal razors getting wet that can cause it to slowly rust if the moisture isn't removed. Silica is desiccant, meaning it removes moisture and keeps things dry. Storing your razor with silica gel can help to prevent your blades from rusting by eliminating the excess moisture, therefore it can last longer. You may be able to keep your razors for many years by combined with this razor sharpening trick. Always wash them before use.

We can always see packets of silica gel in our shoeboxes, gadget boxes, and other products, and we probably know that we are not supposed to eat it. However, it is safe to put in food containers. and it can do a great job as a moisture absorber of maintaining things fresh.

Non-toxic Moisture Removal by Using Safe Silica-Gel Packs with your cases and equipment to absorb moisture sealed inside your bags of Food. Also, reduce condensation and keep your equipment dry. Safe silica gel prevents condensation, rust, mildew, corrosion, and spoilage before they begin.

We can see the warning "Do not eat" on silica gel packets. We wouldn't recommend it, but in fact, silica gel isn't actually unsafe to eat. It is safe and effective for keeping food fresh as good moisture absorber, like:

Spice drawers

Dried fruits or herbs

The things that tend to clump up such as Brown sugar

Potatoes, onions, and other veggies that sprout quickly

And you can use them to avoid rust and extend the life of your razors, tools, and other kitchen items. And when they absorb maximum and reach their maximum level, we can just heat them in the oven on low heat for an hour to dry them back out. By dehydrating it can use as a new moisture absorber.

Orange silica gel suppliers

Orange silica gel

Orange silica gel also is known as orange indicating silica gel. As per the chemical description, it is orange to green indicating silica gel. The formula for the orange silica gel can be defined as SiO2 + H2O + C25H30ClN3. Health Hazard Identification says that do not breathe dust or exceed the exposure limits.

Always store orange silica gel in a closed and airtight container. Try to remove from the source of exposure. If in case it came to contact with skin, wash spillage from the skin with soap and water. The same for the eyes also. If any case it came to contact with eyes, wash immediately with copious amounts of water and obtain medical attention.

You can see the writing "Do not eat" on all the types of silica gel packets. Maybe it is not toxic. however, it is not edible. Like the other silica gels orange silica gel also not edible. Wash out mouth with water if a great amount swallowed or symptoms develop. It is an inorganic compound and not combustible.

Moisture Absorber

Moisture absorbers have an important role in human life. In ancient times, to filter the water to enter into the deep wells they used charcoals. They were aware of that charcoal has the ability to filter water. They used mainly coconut shell charcoal to filter water.

Now, we have scientific proof that charcoal is a good agent to absorb moisture and pure the air. So it is known as a good moisture absorber. Now we have charcoal water filters like the sand water filter. It is a gift from the old people.

Like a charcoal filter, charcoal briquettes are used to absorb wetness and odor from the air in your home. A while back, Gregory tipped us off on using charcoal to remove fridge odors, but they definitely work in other rooms, too. Therefore it is a good moisture absorber.

Causes of Food Spoilage

Causes of Food Spoilage!

What are the causes of food spoilage?

We can see that sometimes our food will be spoiled at room temperature. The food and water may be infected by germs. Flies carry germs. When they sit on our food, they pass germs to our food. However here we are talking about moisture absorbers to avoid food spoilage due to moisture.

There are different factors that are accountable for food spoilage like microorganisms, mold, yeast, moisture, light, temperature, and chemical reaction. The spoilage due to moisture or wetness can be avoided by a good moisture absorber keeping with the food products in a tight container.

The factors that affect food spoilage include:

Microorganisms.
Enzymes.
Moisture
Air.
Light.
Insects, Rodents, Parasites and Other Creatures.
Physical Damage.
Temperature.
Time.

One of the best moisture absorbers is silica gel. It can be available in small packets. We can see it sometimes in laptop bags or with tablet bottles. Because they are keeping with these products to avoid water presence. In that way, we can avoid damages.

For food protection many manufacturing companies producing a different form or different type of silica gel. For example, the Turkish company Clariant is producing Oxy-Guard oxygen absorber desiccant specifically for medicine protection and food protection.

Silica gel is inactive with most of all other products, therefore it will not harm food products or medical items. However, for more safety, manufacturers are giving special focus on it and producing good desiccant for this purpose.

How Does drying preserve food?

Drying is a simple process of dehydrating foods until there is not enough moisture to support microbial activity. Drying removes the water needed by bacteria, yeasts, and molds that need to grow. If properly dried and stored, dehydrated foods will have more shelf-life (safe for storage at room temperature). If any water content by using moisture absorbers we can dry it.
