Earth Rods and Lightning Arresters

The earth rods a small device used to protect all other devices from lightning or similar static currents. It is placing into the ground by connecting to the main electricity source. It has to be placed at least 2 feet distance from the source or building. It can be used as a remover of excess current or current leakage.

Normally we are using lightning arresters to protect our whole devices and building from the sudden excess electricity. By placing the lightning arrester above the building or top of the building, It must be connected with the ground. T do the ground connection it has to be combined with an earthing rod.

In a lightning arrester system, a lightning rod is a single component of the system. To provide a protective function, the lightning rod needs to be connected with the earth. The common thing in all lightning rods is that they are all made of conductive materials that may be copper and aluminum.

Earthing rods can be extended by design. It can be used with copper couplers to inter-connect many rods to acquire the required driving depth – the rod couplers provide permanent electrical conductivity and the longer copper earth rods access lower resistivity soils at lower depths.

Vertically driven earth rods are the most effective electrode for use in typically small area substations or when low soil resistivity ground conditions, For high soil resistivity ground conditions, where the rod can penetrate lies beneath a layer.

Lighting arresters are commonly using for all types of buildings. If it is not properly connected to the ground there is no use with it. If the earth rods are not placed, the excess voltage will return back to the source. If it is excess to the device, there is a chance for the failure of it and sometimes exposure can happen.

Surge Protector

Surge Protector

A potential target for a lightning strike, such as an outdoor television antenna, is attached to the terminal labeled A in the photograph. Terminal E is hooked up to a protracted rod buried within the ground.

Ordinarily, no current can flow between the antenna and also the ground as a result of there's very high resistance between B and C, and conjointly between C and D. The voltage of a surge protector, however, is persistently on top of that required to maneuver electrons through the 2 air gaps.

The result is that electrons go through the lightning arresters rather than traveling on to the television set and destroying it. A surge suppressor could also be a spark gap or could have a block of a conductor like carbide or a philosopher's wool.
Some spark gaps are receptive to the air, but hottest varieties are full of an exactness gas mixture and have a little quantity of material to encourage the gas to ionize once the voltage across the gap reaches a specified level.

Other styles of lightning arresters use a glow-discharge tube (essentially sort of an argonon glow lamp) connected between the protected conductor and ground, or voltage-activated solid-state switches referred to as varistors or MOVs.
Surge Protector employed in power substations ar giant devices, consisting of a ceramic ware tube many feet long and several other inches in diameter, typically filled with discs of zinc oxide.

A safety port on the aspect of the device vents the occasional internal explosion while not shattering the ceramic ware cylinder.
Lightning arresters are rated by the peak current they'll get up to, the number of energy they'll absorb, and therefore the break over voltage that they need to start conductivity.

They are applied as a part of a surge protection system, together with air terminals and bonding.
