Cable ties were 1st fabricated by Thomas & Betts, an electrical company, in 1958 below the brand Ty-Rap. Initially, they were designed for airplane wire harnesses. The original style used a metal tooth, and these will still be obtained. Manufacturers later changed to the nylon/plastic design.

The design of cable ties has over the years been extended and developed into various spin-off products. One example was an automatic loop developed as another to purse-string suture in colon junction.

Ty-Rap cable tie inventor, Maurus C. Logan worked for Thomas & Betts and finished his career with the corporate as VP of analysis and Development. During his tenure at Thomas & Betts, he contributed to the event and promoting of the many prosperous Thomas & Betts products. Logan died on 12 November 2007, at the age of 86.

Some people quote the durability of the cable band from a minimum of 5 years to a maximum of 10 years. Durability helps to reduce costs when it requires large applications. Cable ties are available in different colors. These cable band materials are of use for various applications. They are available in almost all colors like white, black, green, yellow, orange, red, pink...etc.

Black colored cable tie has high quality. long life and durability. Normally white cable ties have less life. they will be last about a year. Cable bands are made from different materials like nylon, stainless steel, fluoropolymer, nylon 6/6, metal and more. Some cable tags can be reused.

At first use your fingernail or a pin to stick in the locking mechanism, then press it down and slide it out. By this simple method, it is possible to reuse the cable bands. For use in applications like chemical compounds, there are Ultra-Violet resistant cable ties are available.

These ties are appropriate for general purpose applications and are resistant to chemicals, grease, and oil-based products. higher temperature nylon generally includes nylon grade 4.6.

UV Protected Cable Ties: These are known as Black cable Ties. These types of cable ties are mainly used for outdoor applications like stainless steel cable ties. They are different from natural cable ties. Because of the outdoor applications, they are resistant to natural contaminants. Highly resistant to oils and grease. These cables are commonly used for applications that require a high tensile holding strength and are often manufactured in nylon 12-grade material.

Stainless Steel Cable Ties: These types of cable ties are suitable for applications that require a high level of protection against corrosion and environmental conditions. It has high durability. And a long life. Which may cause typical nylon cables to disintegrate. They are mainly used for outdoor as well as underground applications. It is also used in indoor applications that need high life. Manufacturers could supply black nylon sleeves for supplementary corrosion protection. 

Other Considerations: It is essential to store cable ties properly to ensure that the cable ties are most effective for an application. To prevent the material from oxidizing and disintegrating, manufacturers suggest storing nylon cable ties and stainless steel cable ties in a cool and dry area.
