The function of a breather in the transformer is to filter out the moisture from the air. Breather consists of silica gel which absorbs moisture from the air. When there is overloading on the transformer breather, the winding of the transformer gets heated so the oil in the main tank of the transformer also gets heated. The hot oil started expanding. There is a conservator tank at the top of the transformer which allows adequate space for the expansion of oil. Therefore during the overloading condition the oil move to the conservator tank.

On the transformer breather in normal operating conditions, the oil comes back to the main tank from the conservator tank. Now, there is free space in the conservator tank that is filled with the air. The conservator tank is never completely filled as it has to allow space for expanding oil from the main tank.

The air which is there in the conservator tank is coming from the atmosphere through the transformer breather and breather contains silica gel in it. This silica gel absorbs moisture from the air. The main reason to remove moisture from the air is that the moisture degrades the dielectric strength of the transformer oil.

Desiccant

The desiccant helps to stop the condensation of moisture between the panes. Another use of zeolites is within the dryer component of air-con systems to assist maintain the efficacy of the refrigerant. Desiccants also are commonly accustomed to protect goods in shipping containers against moisture damage.

We recommend that a desiccant get replaced once every three years for open-cycle systems and once every two years for closed-cycle systems. A desiccant may degrade more quickly counting on the environment where it's used. Dew point temperatures offer an honest indication for when to interchange your desiccant

The Council Directive 80/777/EEC lays down the provisions applicable to the exploitation and marketing of natural mineral waters. Natural Mineral Waters are characterized by their constant chemical composition, of so-called “essential constituents” which are supposed to have a beneficial effect on the human organism. Activated alumina can filter the water by avoiding its impurities.

Natural Mineral Waters sources have to be continuously kept free from any environmental contamination (microbiological and chemical contaminants) because of their underground origin and the required measures of protection of the sources. Therefore, treatments for the removal of microbiological or chemical contamination are not allowed by the E.U. NMW legislation. Using activated alumina will not make any harmful effects on the water while purification.

However, for technological and food safety purposes a limited number of treatments may be used,e.g. removal of unstable elements (iron, sulfur and manganese compounds) by precipitation, filtration or treatment with activated alumina or ozone-enriched air without changing the composition of the Natural Mineral Waters as regards the essential constituents. Such treatments should be notified to and controlled by competent authorities.

Silica Gel

Silica gel is one of the best moisture absorbers. There is a lot of advantages for silica gel and there are no side effects. In many cases, most of the people will ask for the expiration date of the silica gel. How long silica gel is good for?

It is recommended that silica gel open to the atmosphere for longer than 15 minutes. Larger sachets should not be removed from their packaging for more than 1 hour before they are required for use. The shelf life of silica gel can safely be said to be between 4 and 12 months while it is in a sealed environment 

Although silica gel is possible for reuse. Silica gel will absorb wetness to keep things dry. All the rope access techniques are implemented mainly to avoid falls and risks or damages while working in the heights. Fall arresters may be handled in a number of ways. Scaffolds, handrails, barriers and movable platforms are often constructed to guard workers employed at heights. Where these devices are impractical, personal fall protection equipment like full-body harnesses, lanyards, and retractable lifelines could also be used.

Fall hazard elimination should be considered first once fall hazards have been identified by a competent person. This is consists of redesigning the working environment and the work processes and procedures and it is known as “engineering out the hazard”. If this is impractical due to extensive modifications and cost, fall protection should be considered next.

What is Rope access and Where we can use it?

Rope access is a method that is used to reach the edges and corners at the height which is not able to reach normally. We can define it as the technical progress on the rope when conventional access methods can't be used.

Rope access techniques required technicians as it indicates. Because this job is at the highest risk. Normal workers can't use it easily. They need to get training on it. And it should be approved by Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA). The rope access technique developed by IRATA is employed during a wide selection of repair, maintenance, inspection, and access work.

The information provided by the Commission Directive 2003/40/EEC was shown that under optimized process conditions the release of impurities due to the use of the activated alumina if it occurs at all, is usually less than the relevant limits set within the Directives mentioned above. In addition, due to the regular regeneration process of the activated alumina according to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), there is no additional risk of microbial contamination.

It was also demonstrated that fluoride can be removed effectively from Normal Mineral Waters by filtration through a bed of activated alumina. To maintain compliance with the bounds set in Directive 2003/40/EC the fluoride content of the treated water must be monitored because of the reducing absorption capacity of the activated alumina during the cycle of use and regeneration.

The Panel concluded that the removal of fluoride from Normal Mineral Waters by filtration through activated alumina can be safely applied provided the critical steps as described above are implemented and monitored appropriately.

Silica, or silicon dioxide (SiO2), is that the same material found in quartz. The gel form contains millions of tiny pores that can absorb and hold moisture. Silica gel desiccant is essentially porous sand.
