Blue Silica Gel
Blue Indicating Silica Gel. Blue silica gel is a bead or granule that has been washed with a concentration of cobalt chloride (a heavy metal salt). The metallic element chloride could be a deep-blue color once dry and turns from blue to pink because it becomes saturated.
The moisture in blue silica gel can be removed by drying at a temperature greater than110°C. The current USP Chapter <671> recommends pre-drying silica gel desiccant at approximately 150°C to ensure the complete removal of adsorbed water. Clay could be a low value and economical drying agent at the cold.
Microwave drying method; Place the colloid in AN applicable instrumentation and set the microwave power to the medium to a medium-high setting. If the blue silica gel has not dried, stir it with a spoon and warmth it for one more three to five minutes. Stir the gel each time it is inspected.
Orange Silica gel:
Orange Silica Gel conforms to the European Union requirements for moisture indicating desiccants. Similar to Blue colloid, Orange colloid is employed during a form of industries and applications, like compressed gas dryers, gas drying, and transformer breathers.
Orange silica gel, typically called Yellow Indicating colloid, is comprised of a present mineral silicon oxide that's sublimate and processed into a beaded kind. When the beads are dry, they appear yellow/orange in color, and when they have become saturated with moisture to about 15% by weight the beads will change to a green color.
This type of indication allows users to visually make sure once the siccative has to get replaced or regenerated.
Orange silica gel has a high adsorption capacity and will remove moisture at temperatures as high as 150° F (65°C). Each bead size is 2-5 MM. container weight is 55 LB. Their granule or bead shape helps to equally contact the atmosphere with all the sides of it.
