Blue Silica Gel and Breather
What is a blue indicating silica gel?
Blue silica gel is a semi-transparent glassy substance containing an indicator as “Cobalt Chloride” a significant metal salt. When free from wet the Granules or beads are navy blue in color. Blue Silica Gel is also called as blue Indicating Silica Gel, Self Indicating Silica Gel, Blue Desiccants, Moisture absorber.
As the blue silica gel beads take up wet, they turn to light blue gradually & When they turn pink, When the gel has absorbed approximately 8 % percent of its weight in water the colored crystals can flip from blue to pink creating a simple visual indicator of whether or not the gel has become saturated with wet. It indicates that the time for the gel replacement or regeneration time.
The blue silica gel will still adsorb up to 40% of its weight in water vapor just like the non-indicating In fact, it is mainly used as an indicator for the extent of dehumidification and moisture absorption in a sealed vessel and Silica Gel Breather Industry.
BREATHING PROCESS OF TRANSFORMER:
Breathing is the method wherever the transformer Breather in or Breather out the air from its body thanks to the thermal contraction of oil mass. Hence, it's necessary that the air getting into the transformer breather is free from wet particles.
When the transformer breather is loaded or blank, the oil temperature inside the transformer tank rises or falls accordingly the air pressure inside the tank changes by either breathing in or breathing out the air. This phenomenon is called "Breathing" of the transformer.
Now, the air which is being breathed in contains either dust particles and/or humidity that change the dielectric strength of the oil. For the proper functioning of the transformer breather, it is absolutely necessary that the dielectric strength of transformer oil remains unimpaired.
