Silica Desiccant
The synthetic amorphous silica gel is an inert without any known negative effect on the environment. Therefore the disposal process of silica gel is clearly normal. That makes more easy for the users. They can dispose of it with the normal wastes.
Silica gel is not classified as a hazardous material under EEC directive 91/689/EEC. Therefore using and disposal of it is easy. Normally silica gel is used to absorb water and moisture from the atmosphere. Its porous structure will help to do it. It can contain more water than the weight of it.
Up to a certain limit, silica gel is absorbing moisture. Normally it is not absorption. it is an adsorption process. After reaching the limit, it will lose the capability to adsorb water. So it will become a waste. But fortunately, there is an option to reuse it. We can reactivate silica gel by using an oven for reuse.
Silica gel is a desiccant. It has various forms. Many of the companies are producing a different form of silica gel for different applications. Therefore we are getting more results. For example, if the application is cargo and shipping, we have to go with Container Dri. It is specially designed for cargo and shipping by Clariant UK.
If our application is food product protection, We have to choose the desiccant with a different character. For food products, need more protection and safety. It should not be harmful to food items. So we have to choose Oxy-Guard for that.
Similarly, if the application is medical products or electronic, semiconductors, machinery, we have to choose different desiccant forms. We have to choose the best quality silica products always to protect all the items.
Silica gel is not classified as special waste under UK special waste regulations 1996 and can be disposed of with normal waste. It will be helpful for users. All the forms of silica can be disposed like this.
