What is Silica Gel?

What is Silica Gel?

The term silica gel springs from the producing technique, sol-gel, to supply this material. Two raw materials, sodium silicate, and mineral acid are used in a wet process to create a reaction in generating monomeric silicic acid. Silica-gel differs from precipitated and fumed silica.

Silica gel packets in the seaweed contain hard little beads. They are made through a process involving sodium silicate and an acid patented by a chemistry professor, Walter Patrick, of Johns Hopkins University in 1919. The mixture forms a gel that is then dried out Silica, or SiO2 is the same material found in quartz. The gel form contains millions of tiny pores that can absorb and hold moisture. Silica gel is essentially porous sand.

Silica gel is non-toxic when it is alone, non-flammable and chemically unreactive. However, a number of the beads could also be doped with a wetness indicator, such as cobalt (II) chloride, which is carcinogenic. This is the explanation most silica gel packets are tagged as dangerous or toxic once eaten.

ORANGE silica gel is a significant metal-free product. It is an eco-friendly humidity indicator of SILICA GEL for the protection of goods and miscellaneous substances. It is widely used in Transformer Breathers & Air Dryer in Power Sector.

ORANGE silica gel is an alumino-silicate gel within the variety of onerous shape or Spherical Beads type, with very high resistance to crushing and a low attrition rate. Orange Silica Gel has a longer life than most other adsorbents and can reduce operating costs in most applications. It is also known as Nontoxic Indicating Silica gel

Orange Indicating silica gel may be a spherical/beads kind with terribly high mechanical integrity. The degree of wetness uptake is indicated by a color modification from orange to inexperienced & Orange to Colorless at vi – V-E Day weight water absorption. Orange Silica Gel meets the world demand for heavy metal-free and environmental friendly indicating agent.
