Cable theft is a growing problem worldwide

Cable Tie issues are solved by the entry of Band-IT cable ties. At the same time, the next problem arrived in the form of cable theft. Cable theft is happening around the world, but in South Africa, it's fast becoming a national crisis. Estimates put the loss between 5-7 billion Rand (423 - 593 million USD) a year, with serious implications for the country’s economy, reliability of electricity supply and security. 

Can cable ties solve the problem? Cable thefts will make problems for power outages that can last for a long time, with copper cable thefts constituting more than 90% of all these thefts. The cost of replacing the metal has a significant disruptive effect on the industry and contributes to increased tariffs and prices for ordinary South Africans. Furthermore, the replacement of stolen cables has to take preference for essential maintenance.

Around the world, theft becomes a serious issue. It considered an economical loss around the globe. Thieves can make money easily by reselling stolen cables. Band IT tried to resolve this issue by introducing their new product into the global market.

Tamper-resistant Ultra-Lok clamps

To deter theft, the safety of any traditional cable installation is often increased by applying an Ultra-Lok cable tie as frequently as every 150mm cable. Recently Band-IT Ultra-Lok clamp's effectiveness was proved in August 2015 at a client site.

The client operates in the petrochemical industry, where conveyor belts are located in secluded areas and are difficult to monitor making cable theft monitoring a major challenge. The verdict, after watching various BAND IT ties, was that the Ultra-Lok open-end clamp and installation tool would be the simplest suited to the client’s projects.

BAND IT provided training to the operators that installed the clamps, and the team was tasked with supplying the client with application tools and clamps.
