Cartridges and Ink Ribbons
Ink ribbons are commonly used in dot matrix printers and in cash registers. This is different from other types of printers. Because it comes with liquid ink, these types of inking solutions for dot matrix and cash register printers have ink evenly coated on a round spun ribbon.
Whenever entries are made there is pressure applied over the ink ribbons onto the paper and the text is printed on to paper. Ribbons were used from the date back to the time when typewriters were used. They used it and the ink particles would fuse with the paper as the keys would be pressed.
For the same printers, many companies have cartridges of different sizes. If we use the standard sized ones, we can get 500 pages printed. we need to use it at least one time each week, to get the optimal usage out of your printer. Otherwise, due to long periods of non-usage the ink tends to dry out.
If we use an inkjet printer that uses ink cartridges we will be able to get 500 pages of text printed. On the other hand, ribbons last much longer than cartridges and we might be able to get about 4 times the usage.
The main difference between cartridges and ink ribbons is their lifespan. However, another thing is that the printers that work with ink ribbons print comparatively smaller sheets of paper. For example, a receipt printer at a cash register could be much smaller than an A4 sized paper.
As per the use, you should choose your printer. If you have to print documents in high quantity it might be feasible to use printers that use ink ribbons. But if you want to focus on the quality and you need mostly images then you should choose printers that employ ribbons instead.
