Oxygen Absorber and Silica Gel

Oxygen absorbers are one of the fast moving product to keep food items as fresh for a long time. Food preservation has an important role in modern life style. Most of the working people doesn't have time to prepare fresh food on every meal time. They are always approaching to long shelf food.

To establish and improve shelf life of the food products, acceptability of the customers and increase in the food security, it is must to preserve the packaged food against oxidative degradation. Oxygen absorbers can remove excess dissolved oxygen, and it can maintain the color, exact texture and aroma of different food ingredient, and most importantly inhibition of food spoilage microbes.

Within the food industry, Ferrous iron oxides are the most commonly used oxygen absorbers. Over and over decades, food packaging technology has improved in food preservation. This technology is mainly applied to increase the quality of oxygen absorber and to the sealing of foods in oxygen impermeable package material.

Oxygen absorbers are belongs to the category of silica gel. Silica gel is used to absorb moisture from the surroundings. It can helps to keep the things fresh by removing excess moisture from it. There are many items that will get damaged due to the presence of moisture content.

For example we can see tiny silica gel packets along with our new pair of shoes (Inside the box) or with our laptops (Inside the bags). The reason behind this is these product can get damaged because of excess moisture. Therefore the manufactures are keeping silica gel packets along with these products.

One of the condition that we need to consider while keeping silica gel along with the product is it could be in a closed container. Otherwise this small packets will start to absorb moisture from the atmosphere also if they are exposed to outside.
